Dede and I had the privilege of photographing Alkaline Trio on Saturday night as they played at Center Stage in Atlanta. Here are some of the photos. Special thanks to the band for letting us come out.

“It’s better to burn out then to fade away,” said a wise rock and roller (who has yet to do either after over 40 years).  But these words ring even truer in the world of punk rock. Like a red dwarf, these bands burn brightly with passion and fury, then fade out quickly. It’s just too damn hard to maintain that intensity, and, in some cases, the lifestyle.
Alkaline Trio have been together for 17 years and just released their ninth album, My Shame Is True.  It has all the intensity that 1998’s Goddamnitcontained. And it should, it stems from a very intense and personal time in lead singer Matt Skiba’s life.
In his interview, Skiba talks about that turbulent time in his life, the new album, and how the band has changed and grown (sometimes to the chagrin of their fans) over the years.

I think this is appropriate to post here. This past weekend I saw Trio 3 times in a row. Matt was especially gracious and sweet (but when is he not, really?) I even got a song dedicated to me. If you’re interested you can read a bit about my experience here.

This is my new tattoo. The one on the right is what Matt drew me when I told him I wanted to get something of his tattoo’d and the one on the left is said tattoo. Cleaned up the design just a little and added color. It’s all wonky, lumpy, shiny, bleeding and swollen because it’s literally only a couple hours old and I’ll take better pics after it heals but I couldn’t be happier to have a Skiba original on my body!
