Interview with bombshellzine.com

Matt Skiba and the Sekrets recently released their debut album ‘Babylon‘ via Superball Music. This latest project from the busy Alkaline Trio singer / guitarist has him teaming up with AFI’s Hunter Burgan and My Chemical Romance drummer Jarrod Alexander on the record. With the album now in-stores and the live shows underway, with a much talked about debut performance, Deborah Konopnicki and Jarret Gahan recently caught up with Matt Skiba to talk about this latest project, future projects, and find out just what happened at that debut performance.

This past May, Alkaline Trio/TheHELL singer and guitarist Matt Skiba released Babylon, an album under his most recent (and definitely not last) artistic moniker of Matt Skiba and the Sekrets. While described as a solo project, Skiba’s joined by a very notable backing band that includes Hunter Burgan from AFI on bass and Jarrod Alexander from My Chemical Romance on drums. At the time of this interview, a haggard-sounding, but talkative Skiba was slowly recovering from a late show the night before, at Punk Rock Bowling in Las Vegas where he was joined on stage by Laura Grace of Against Me! From his home in Los Angeles (and two weeks before the infamous Chicago show), Skiba openly spoke to Punknews interviewer Gen Handley about some recent turbulence in his life, what the idea of hell means to him and what he sees on his tombstone when death comes a’knocking.

And since it’s all anyone is talking about or interested in Skiba land, here is video of Matt’s not so great first ever solo show.

I hate posting it but, it happened.

Let’s all just hope that he gets through whatever hurdles he’s facing and can recover from this with his health and grace in tact.

Matt Skiba and the Sekrets - Voices

Video Premier

The video for Matt Skiba and the Sekrets’ “Voices” begins with two young women in a room, one reading the palm of the other. The reader predicting a perfect life for her subject — living to 86 years, a marriage of 70. However, things take a dark turn when she predicts a loss. Things take an even darker turn when the palm reader turns into some form of crazy demon lady. Then things get pretty weird.

“Voices” is the lead off track on Babylon, the debut album of the Alkaline Trio frontman’s side project. Take a look at the video below and pick up the LP, which is available now. Oh, and did we mention that the track is instantly infectious?
